The Voice of Delta Gamma Alumnae

Carole Bekke Soper, Alpha Theta-North Dakota, dedicated her life to Delta Gamma and its members. When Carole passed away last year, countless memories were shared about her enthusiasm and devotion in giving our alumnae the attention they deserved.

Carole and her husband, Jay, made many moves during their marriage. With each move, Carole would see if there was a local Delta Gamma alumnae chapter, and if there wasn't, she was not deterred. She would start one. Carole went on to serve as a Province Alumnae Chairman from 1991-1994 and as the Vice President: Alumnae on Council from 1994-1998. She was also a 2001 Cable Award recipient and beloved member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity Board of Advisers from 1998 until her passing in 2016.

A caring and compassionate woman, Carole was always involved in organizations, but according to her family, Delta Gamma was her dearest and moved loved.

"We had a Delta Gamma flag and always made sure it was flying when the DG's assembled. Delta Gamma meant a wonderful group of women she could call her sisters," Jay shares.

When she passed away, Carole's family asked that any donations made in her memory go to the Delta Gamma Foundation so that everyone who loved her could see "the bonds of Delta Gamma" at work.
Thanks to the numerous donations that were made, Carole will receive a Board of Advisers memorial brick in the Heritage Park Memorial Garden of the Commemorative Brick Walkway and Gardens at Executive Offices. The Foundation will also have the privilege of awarding two alumnae fellowships for graduate study in Carole's name, with each fellowship totaling $3,325.

As a Charter Group member, Carol knew the importance of planning for the future of Delta Gamma. She left the Foundation in her will and her gift was used to establish an endowment named the Carole Bekke Soper Memorial Scholarship Fund. In the words of her daughter, Lisa Galea: "The donation to Delta Gamma was part of my parents' will. This was a decision that was very important to my mom, which is why we chose to make that donation upon her death, and not wait, so that my father and I could see my mother's dedication and legacy continue with Delta Gamma and make a difference."

Carole was a steadfast supporter of our sisterhood and the Delta Gamma Foundation is honored to help carry on her legacy.
