Tracey Vieth McElroy, Gamma Zeta-Louisiana State, knows that access to higher education is imperative for young women. Not all women are able to go to college and graduate debt-free, but Tracey decided that she could do something about it, both through her work with her alumnae chapter sisters in Dallas and as an individual. Tracey has made a legacy gift commitment to the Delta Gamma Foundation to endow a merit-based scholarship.

While a first-year student at Louisiana State, Tracey was unfamiliar with the fraternity/sorority system, but coming from Texas, she thought recruitment would be a good way to meet people on a new campus. And boy, was she right—by joining Delta Gamma, Tracey's world expanded. While many other sororities were made up of members mostly from New Orleans or other parts of Louisiana, DG had a more geographically diverse membership.

"We all came together even though we were so different," she recalls. "I found a home at Delta Gamma, since I didn't know anyone at school," Tracey says.

After Tracey graduated and returned to Texas, she became involved with the local alumnae group. Today, she volunteers as a regional alumnae specialist, so she can stay involved in Delta Gamma. "I like working with the alumnae, meeting diverse women, sharing ideas, learning from them and helping them through my volunteer role. I try to get more DG women re-involved in our sisterhood."

When Tracey's alumnae group started to endow a merit-based scholarship with the Foundation, it piqued her interest. "We should help as many young women as possible fulfill their dreams in college. I realized this was something I could do, and so I set up an endowed scholarship with the Foundation."

Tracey's gift will provide for an annual Delta Gamma merit-based scholarship in perpetuity. Her commitment to furthering the educational goals of young women will live on through her legacy.
