Still Involved and Still Having Fun

Barb Probst celebrates her lasting connection to Delta Gamma with a gift in her estate plans.

By Barbara Bartlett Probst, Gamma Upsilon—Wichita State

My Delta Gamma alumnae involvement began while I was a young alumna member and my husband, Jerry, and I were raising three wonderful but busy little boys, Jeff, Brent and Scott. Even though I had plenty to do at home, when Delta Gamma called, I couldn't say no, so I asked Jerry if he minded me getting "a little involved" with Delta Gamma while the boys were so young.

I'll never forget his response: "Of course you can...and as long as you are having fun and enjoying what you are doing, go for it. You have my support."

Well, that was about 40 years ago and I am still involved and I am still having fun. So why wouldn't it be a natural thing for me to join the Charter Group and agree to leave a gift in our trust to my beloved Delta Gamma Foundation?

After all, Delta Gamma has been a huge part of my life and my life has been so much richer because of my involvement. The amazing friends I have met, the leadership opportunities I have been given, the amazing skills I have attained, the adventures that have been afforded me as I traveled all over the U.S. meeting one wonderful Delta Gamma after another have been awesome. I owe Delta Gamma for all of these gifts!

It all started when I said yes to my own chapter of Gamma Upsilon-Wichita State to become the rush advisor back in the 1970s and eventually served as president for the Wichita alumnae chapter. In 1977, we packed up the family and moved to Seattle, where I served for five years as advisory board chairman to Beta chapter at the University of Washington. While in Washington, I also had an opportunity to serve as the Panhellenic adviser at the University of Washington to the 18 fabulous NPC groups represented on campus-but my love for my own Delta Gamma never wavered.

I served on the International Council of Delta Gamma for many years in various roles-Vice President: Membership, Vice President: Development and National Panhellenic Conference delegate. It was such an honor of representing Delta Gamma in the National Panhellenic Conference world for 18 years as a member of the delegation and then becoming the NPC delegate for Delta Gamma.

These have been awesome responsibilities and all of these opportunities made me realize that Delta Gamma needed to be part of my family's planned giving. It was important to me that the Foundation continue its fine work.

Next to my incredibly supportive and terrific family, Delta Gamma has been the second greatest influence on my life and an opportunity I would never trade.

I hope each of you reading this who are having an amazing Delta Gamma experience will think of becoming a member of the Charter Group by leaving a planned gift to our Foundation to help keep the dream alive.
